The Baychimo, Ghost Ship www.theoutlaws.com/unexplained8.htmThe short version: A ship, the Baychimo, was built in 1914. By 1931, she was near Barrow when she was trapped in ice on the ocean. The crew disembarked from her and hiked over to the company huts in Barrow. When they came back two days later, the crew found that the ice broke away from the ship — but when they tried to board and get her ready to sail, the ice built itself back up around the hull and engines. The Hudson Bay Company rescued 22 men and left a skeleton crew with the ship – for when the ice would break. About 6 weeks later, in late November, a blizzard hit the area. When the blizzard cleared, the crew (who were staying in the company huts) came to find that the Baychimo had completely vanished. It was seen a few days later by an Eskimo 45 miles away from where it had been trapped. In 1932, she was spotted near Herschel Island. She was spotted again in 1933 in the area where she had been trapped in ice. She was spotted several times, boarded several times, but never rescued. Wild storms or fast moving ice floes would suddenly appear if and when someone boarded her. In March 1962, a small party of Eskimos discovered her again while fishing from their kayaks. This time, she was floating serenely off a desolate strip of coastline on the Beaufort Sea. LOOK AT THE WEBSITE ABOVE FOR MORE INFO AND PICTURES.
